News Update

In midst of the celebration and competition, AsiaSoft has banded with its game developers from Korea and Japan to remember and contribute to the beneficiaries within our community. As part of its first fundraising activity for the Muscular Dystrophy Association Singapore (“MDAS”), the AsiaSoft’s adopted charity, the company will work closely with game developers CyberStep, KOG Studios, Nexon Corporation, Yedang Online Corporation and T3 Entertainment, to develop special MDAS in-game items for players to purchase in support of the association.

“AsiaSoft is firmly committed to giving back to the community and we are pleased to have our game developers on board in our contribution to MDAS,” said Mr Sherman Tan, Chairman of AsiaSoft.  “Our gamers have also shown much warmth and support in our previous ‘Gamers Love Sports’ and ‘Gamers Care’ initiatives, and we believe that our joint efforts will make this a meaningful campaign to share the joy of gaming and community with MDAS.”

“It is our great pleasure and honor to participate in such a meaningful event with AsiaSoft, and we will try our best to assist AsiaSoft to give fun and joy back to society through the new industry of gaming,” said Mr Nam Chul Kim, Chief Executive Officer of Yedang Online Corporation.

“MDAS is excited and impressed by AsiaSoft's ingenious fund-raising concept.  We hope that gamers and netizens in the Southeast Asia region will join AsiaSoft in supporting our cause,” said Dr Yee Woon Chee, President of MDAS.

Currently in production, the specially designed in-game items will include cosmetic accessories for players to dress up their game avatars and to express their support for MDAS.  All profit proceeds from the in-game item sales will be donated to MDAS at the end of 2008.

AsiaSoft was also delighted to announce its partnership with the Muscular Dystrophy Association (Singapore) (“MDAS”), under the ComCare Connection, a community-giving initiative by the National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre (“NVPC”) that matches corporations with non-profit organizations to bring more sustainable benefits to the community.

This long-term partnership will see, amongst other things, AsiaSoft providing MDAS' beneficiaries with training and internship opportunities, from webpage designer roles to game moderator positions from home or within the Centre. AsiaSoft will also be planning a series of family bonding activities and online fundraising initiatives through their product platforms.

“In conjunction with our social responsibility programs like ‘Gamers Love Sports’ and “Gamers Care’, we also would like to extend our assistance to the non-profit organization like MDAS, who will benefit from the ComCare Connection program,” added Sherman. “Gaming is a very universal recreational activity and everyone should be able to enjoy it. We are looking forward for this partnership as it will be the first of many similar collaborations.”

About Muscular Dystrophy Association (Singapore)

The Muscular Dystrophy Association (Singapore), in short, MDAS, is a voluntary welfare organisation committed to uplifting the lives of people with Muscular Dystrophy (MD). The Association, founded in 2000, is a member of the National Council of Social Service and has Institution of Public Character status. MDAS extends its membership privileges to all children, youths and adults with MD as well as their families.

Muscular Dystrophy is the name given to a large group of muscle diseases characterised by the development of muscle weakness, wasting and contractures, that are usually progressive and sometimes life threatening. These diseases often manifest in childhood, although some begin in adulthood. Each disease is caused by one of a large variety of inherited gene abnormalities. At present, there is no cure for Muscular Dystrophy.

OUR MISSION

“To maximise the quality of life of people with Muscular Dystrophy and their families, to integrate them into society and to support research towards a cure.”

OBJECTIVES

  • To provide care and support to people with Muscular Dystrophy;
  • To provide health and public education on Muscular Dystrophy; and
  • To support medical research on Muscular Dystrophy

MDAS provides a range of programme and services to enhance the quality of life of our members. Our Biz-Power Programme aims to provide essential and meaningful activities for young adults with MD who due to the severity of their disability, are unable to manage a full-time open employment. Nonetheless, they too want to be gainfully employed like their peers and lead as normal a life as possible. Through Biz-Power, training in vocational and IT skills are provided to enhance the capabilities of these young adults. Biz-Power capitalises on the abilities and strength of each individual to develop their employability.

MDAS recognises the lack of employment opportunities of people with disabilities. Through our collaboration with AsiaSoft, we look forward to creating employment opportunities for our members. More importantly, being employed fulfils a greater sense of self-worth and purpose.
