Bento dressed up as album cover art
7/19/2008
The Japanese just have a knack for carrying things to extremes. I’m not even surprised anymore when I see these cute little bento boxes with nori seaweed, tamago (egg) and other ingredients decorated to look like album covers.
The person (or persons) behind this are from a blog called Jacket Lunch Box. They are really skilled and patient to make everything look so detailed. It’s almost like how a crazed music fan will only eat their food if their idol is sort of related to it.
Anyway, after all the painstaking effort gone into making the bento, anyone must be quite reluctant to tuck in because they all look so nice and beautiful.
But you see, that’s the whole idea of bento. It has to look appetizing and appealing.
Although bento is basically a home-made meal packed in a lunchbox, the Japanese like to use brightly coloured ingredients like orange carrots, fresh red tomatoes or yellow potatoes and other meat stuff. Sometimes, sesame seed is also sprinkled in an enticing pattern on top of everything.
Are you feeling bento-ish? Wikihow.com has a nice page on how to make bento, just take a look and get inspired. Or hungry…
